Colson Wholesale Purchasing: The Correct Way to Choose a Wholesale Colson Caster Distributor

Colson Wholesale Purchasing: The Correct Way to Choose a Wholesale Colson Caster DistributorWhen you need to find the right caster to meet a specific need, you can easily become overwhelmed with the variety of options. However, not every caster will meet the needs of every activity, which is why Douglas Equipment has forged partnerships with over a dozen different caster manufacturers so that we can always find the right caster for the task at hand.

Colson Caster Corporation: World Class Casters

One of our most commonly used suppliers of casters is the Colson Caster Corporation. Colson has over 125 years experience in the science of caster technology and produces over 200,000 different caster models. They have produced industry changing innovations and added efficiencies to cut costs in order to always improve their caster designs.

The company started in 1885 as the Worthington Company in Ohio and has been experts in wheel technology building tricycles and wheel chairs at the time. With this wealth of knowledge applied to casters, Colson has a range of casters in all capacity levels. Many of the Colson casters include such safeguards as steel top plates, robotic welded fork legs, single-ball hardened swivel raceway construction and recessed zerk grease fittings to prevent damage and give extremely durable and damage resistant constructions.

Heavy Duty Casters for Big Applications

When you have large loads that will apply heavy weights to your casters, you need to use heavy-duty casters to get the job done. Colson has several heavy-duty casters with some wheels able to take loads of up to 6,000 lbs. For these heavy-duty applications, Colson has incorporated the safeguards necessary to prevent caster failure under these extreme loads such as kingpinless designs and extremely heavy-duty materials. An example of one of these heavy-duty casters from Colson is listed below:

  • Colson Kinpinless Enforcer Rigid and Matching Swivel: These casters feature larger diameter wheel options and are available with a zinc plated finish, as well as the kingpinless swivel design to help eliminate swivel section failure. Wheel material options include Forged Steel, Cast Iron, Mold-on Rubber and Phenolic, and come in wheel diameters of 6”, 8”, 10” and 12”. Caster capacities range from 680 – 4500 lbs.

Medium Duty Casters for Mid-Range Usage

When your loads are between those of standard office environments and heavy-duty industrial applications, you will want to look into the medium duty casters that are available for these uses. These typical weights can range from 500 -1,500 lbs. and can meet the demands of hospital beds, scaffolding, luggage carts, waste disposal trucks, and pharmaceutical equipment. Douglas carries many medium duty casters including the following from the Colson Caster Corporation:

  • Colson 6 Series Enforcer: These casters have an attractive and durable zinc finish, as well as the kingpinless swivel design that eliminates swivel section failure due to shock and stretching of the kingpin. The legs are a manufactured 1/4” thick for durability and the hollow 1/2” thick axle includes a grease zerk and lock nut for maintenance. Wheel material options include Mold-on rubber, Phenolic, polyolefin, Mold-on Nylon, Performa rubber, cast iron, Polyurethane HI-TECH, and Thermo High Temperature. Wheel diameters can be 4”, 5”, 6” and 8”. Caster capacities range from 300 -1500 lbs. to suit any needs you may have.

Light Duty Casters for Standard use

When you don’t need the extreme designs of the medium or heavy-duty casters, light duty casters are what you need to consider. These are particularly useful for office environments and can easily be used on chairs and business machines of all sorts. Colson has a large variety of these casters with capacities ranging from 450 – 500 lbs. each.

  • Colson 1 Series: This is a basic light duty caster design that works well for standard usage. The wheel options are Cushion Rubber, Polyolefin, Performa Rubber, Hard Rubber and Polyurethane HI-TECH, many of which are suitable for carpeted surfaces. This caster comes in two sizes, including capacities of 60 and 75 lbs.

Specialty Casters for Unique Uses

As experts in caster design and testing, Colson is the place to turn for expert testing and verification. Many customers have turned to Colson for designs that were needed to meet very specific needs for which no standard casters were available. In many cases these designs have become so useful that Colson has made these available in their specialty caster line. Here is one such caster for convertible hand trucks:

  • Convertible Hand Truck Casters – 2 Series: These hand truck casters include an attractive and durable zinc plated finish, as well as 3/8” bolted axles and features a polyolefin thread guard for performance and durability. These casters make great replacements, as they are compatible with many different convertible hand trucks from several nationally brands and can include an optional side brake. The standard mounting is a 1” x 2 ½” long stem with one mounting hole to secure the caster in place on the hand truck. Caster capacity is 250 lbs.
