Colson Specialty Medical Casters for Sale

Colson Specialty Medical Casters for SaleSpecially Designed for the Medical Industry

The medical industry is an industry of precision and expectancy. And when it comes to the equipment that is used in the medical industry it is very important the quality matches the needs of the industry. Simple things and details such as wheels and casters can make all the difference when it comes to efficiency and usability of a particular piece of office or medical equipment.

Although there are numerous options when it comes to basic caster options, with today’s developments in technology and design there are also specialty casters that are designed specifically for the medical industry. Two of those options are the Kick Stop Specialty Medical Caster and the Contour Solus Medical Specialty Caster by Colson.

Kick Stop

In general, kick stop casters are known to have an improved load capacity in addition to harder wheel types. Specifically, the Kick Stop Specialty Medical Caster comes with wheel size options of 3”, 4” and 5”. The 3” models have a weight load capacity of 132 lbs. each and are available in both grey and black polyurethane. The 4” models have a weight load capacity of 132 lbs. each and are available in Black (anti-static) rubber, and grey rubber. The 5” models have a weight load capacity of 175 lbs. each and come in black (anti-static) rubber and grey rubber.

Most of the models feature a roller wheel bearing, however the delrin wheel bearing is available on the grey rubber version of both the 4” and the 5” model. It features an easy to engage foot brake that mechanically locks both swivel and rotation. It is made of a very strong pressure die-cast aluminum that aids in reliability and extended performance. It has a precision axle that is built to exacting tolerances which aids in smooth operation an extended life. The standard finish is white or ball burnished and lacquered.

Contour Solus

The Contour Solus Specialty Medical Caster is available in two different wheel sizes. It is available in both 4” and 5” grey polyurethane. Each wheel size is available in two different models, the kick stop brake and the free swivel. These casters feature the Total Lock break mechanism, which allows you to lock both wheel and swivel in one press of the foot, making it possible to lock the caster wheel in any position. A second press of the foot and the caster wheel then has full range of motion again. It is useful to note that the free swivel models have no braking function.

The Contour Solus Medical Caster has a sleek Euro design, featuring an aluminum shell that both, hides nuts and bolts, and helps to keep out dirt from getting into the internal workings of the caster. This combines both aesthetic and function. The design also promotes extended life and a smooth, quiet operation.  An additional feature is that there are a variety of color options to choose from.

Another Option

In addition to these two types of specialty casters that are available there are other casters that are viable options for other parts of the medical industry. One such example is casters made of stainless steel. Stainless steel has many qualities that can be useful in areas that require material adaptability and longevity. Some of these useful characteristics of stainless steel include:

  • Hygiene: Stainless steel is very easily cleaned, making it extremely useful in work environments, such as the medical field where specific hygiene rules need to be followed.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Depending on the makeup of the stainless, whether it is low or high alloyed, it will be able to resist certain levels of corrosion in different workplace environments. These may include both pure water and atmospheric environments as well as alkaline, acidic and chlorine environments.
  • Fire and Heat Resistance: Certain levels of stainless steel are made with the ability to resist high temperature oxidation, or scaling. And they may also be able to maintain strength at certain high temperatures.
  • Impact Resistance: Certain levels of stainless steel are extremely durable and can withstand tough work conditions as compared to casters made of other materials.
  • Strength to Weight: Due to the different make-ups of the steel, there are certain levels that allow for thinner material thickness that actually has an increased overall. This feature can be useful in certain high-use industries.
  • Attractive Appearance: The finish is often shiny and is easy to maintain which can add a clean aesthetic quality to many overlooked environments.
  • Long Term Value: Although initial cost of items made of stainless steel can be more expensive with initial purchase it most often proves to be worth the investment over time. In essence, the long-term benefits outweigh the initial cost.

Yet More Options

In addition to these more specific caster options there are a variety of standard options that might also be useful in other areas of the medical industry. Basic categories of casters are designated by their weight load bearing capacity, light, medium or heavy. Each category has a variety of standard options that allow you to tailor the caster to more specifically suit your job and workplace needs. Some of the other details that can have options that can be chosen are the mounting attachment, the wheel size, the wheel material and tread, the material of the wheel casing and the metallic finish of the housing. Also, other options can be added, such as brakes, to further specialize the basic caster models. No matter what your needs are, in terms of casters, there is an option to suit your needs.
