Morse Drum Handling Equipment: A Douglas Equipment Review

Morse Drum Handling Equipment: A Douglas Equipment ReviewWhen it comes to drum handling equipment, the long-established US-based company Morse is regarded as one of the best in the business. If you have a production facility that uses drums, then you can maximize your efficiency and increase your profitability by investing in Morse drum handling equipment.

There are plenty of types of drum handling equipment that Morse manufactures (and our team here at Douglas Equipment can supply you with most of their extensive product line). Following this review, you should be able to make a decision about which type of Morse drum handling equipment is sufficient for your company’s needs.

Different Types of Morse Drum Handling Equipment

  • Drum Trucks – Models 152/153

These Morse drum trucks are inexpensive and easy to use. They are lightweight, yet are incredibly sturdy as they are manufactured by steel-welding. They can handle 30, 55 or 85 gallon drums. The 152 model has 10” rubber wheels, whereas the 153 model has 10” polyolefin wheels. Both trucks have a weight-bearing capacity of 1000 lbs.

  • Drum Trucks – Model 155

This handstand-style drum truck stores in an upright position which makes it ideal for production facilities that do not have a great deal of spare space. The 155 model comes with a support that allows the drum truck to stand upright – this support then doubles as a footrest, assisting you when it comes to loading your drum onto the truck. Like the 152 and 153 models, this truck can handle all three standard drum sizes, and has a load capacity of 1000 lbs.

  • Drum Trucks – Model 125

This is a drum transportation model with a ‘no spill’ feature. The truck allows you to effortlessly transport your drums in an upright position, providing stable control of your drum by use of a handle that’s attached to the base. The truck comes with two 8” polyolefin wheels, and a 4” swivel caster. The truck can easily handle standard 55 gallon drums in fiber, plastic or steel up to 24” in diameter, with a capacity 1200 lbs.

  • Drum Trucks – 4-Wheel Drum Truck

For extra stability and added strength, you may wish to invest in a four-wheel drum truck from Morse. These trucks make it as easy as possible to load and maneuver 30, 55 or 85 gallon drums, between 14 and 28 inches in diameter, and at a maximum capacity of 1000 lbs. The full weight of the drum is supported by two 8” polyolefin wheels, and due to this design, it’s incredibly easy to move drums on and off pallets and into a horizontal position. This model is also suitable for use with rimmed plastic and fiber drums as well as steel.

  • Clamp + Go

Clamp + Go is the ideal way to move light-capacity drums. With a Clamp + Go you attach a clamping mechanism to the bottom of the drum. This instantly gives your drum mobility without the need to lift it onto a drum truck. You can use your Clamp + Go on round drum dollies, bearing loads of up to one thousand pounds. Traction is provided by 4 3” MORtuf polyolefin swivel casters.

  • Drum Lifters – Vertical-Karriers

There is of course a huge amount of manual handling when it comes to moving drums around industrial facilities, and with the weight of some drums this can become a very labor intensive and backbreaking process. You can take the strain off of your workforce by investing in a Morse Vertical-Karrier. This handy piece of equipment will grab a rimmed steel drum (maximum capacity 1000 lbs.) and lift it from the ground. It can then be moved to wherever you need it to be. Morse manufactures Vertical-Karriers suitable for use with 30, 55 and 85-gallon drums, steel-only.

  • Drum Movers – Palletizer

Another device that really takes the strain out of drum handling is a drum mover or drum palletizer. These devices manufactured by Morse and supplied by Douglas Equipment can lift drums up to 19” in diameter and with a maximum load of 1000 lbs. This device will help you easily move heavy drums to and from pallets. It works by grasping the drum by the upper rim and then lifting, with an extra support provided to keep the drum upright. Once the drum is lowered into position, the jaws automatically disengage. There are several types of models available, all with different attributes and capacities, so you are sure to find a drum mover or palletizer to suit your requirements.

  • Drum Movers – Mobile-Karrier

For a greater range of maneuverability as opposed to just lifting drums on and off of pallets, a Morse Mobile-Karrier should be exactly what you require. This device allows you to raise, transport and even drain heavy drums up to a maximum capacity of 800 lbs. These carriers can be used without the need to support or balance the drum, then they can be tilted so you can decant the drum’s contents. They can handle the standard model of a 17” drum with a capacity of 55 gallons, and can be provided with adapters so you can also handle drums of smaller diameters.
